Hey everyone, I’m Teacher Tiffani and I want to thank you so much for joining me for another episode of the Speak English with Tiffani podcast. In today’s lesson we are going to listen to one English dialogue and learn 2 new English Expressions.

DIALOGUE

Ok, let’s begin with the dialogue:

Yesterday John called to apologize again for killing my plant. I told him not to worry. I said it wasn’t worth it because the plant had been struggling for a long time. But, he continued to apologize and asked me if I wanted him to buy me a new plant. I told him that it really wasn’t worth the trouble since I would be moving out of the country soon. So, he finally said okay and relaxed a bit.

Again

Yesterday John called to apologize again for killing my plant. I told him not to worry. I said it wasn’t worth it because the plant had been struggling for a long time. But, he continued to apologize and asked me if I wanted him to buy me a new plant. I told him that it really wasn’t worth the trouble since I would be moving out of the country soon. So, he finally said okay and relaxed a bit.

Ok great, now let’s go over the two new expressions that were in the dialogue.

FIRST EXPRESSION

The first English Expression was…
“It isn’t worth it” (repeat)

Now, repeat after me…
“It isn’t worth it” (repeat twice)

Ok, now let’s say it at a normal pace…
“It isn’t worth it” (repeat twice)

This expression means its importance does not justify the concern you are showing.

EXAMPLES

So, let’s look at five examples using this Expression.

The first example is…

“It isn’t worth it. I only wear those boots when I shovel snow anyway.”
[Once again, this time repeat after me]

“It isn’t worth it. I only wear those boots when I shovel snow anyway.”
[Now, this time we will go at a more natural pace and I want you to try to follow me]

“It isn’t worth it. I only wear those boots when I shovel snow anyway.”

The second example is…

“It isn’t worth it. The police will never find him.”
[Once again, this time repeat after me]

“It isn’t worth it. The police will never find him.”
[Now, the last time at a regular pace]

“It isn’t worth it. The police will never find him.”

The third example is…

“No, it isn’t worth it. She doesn’t even like candy.”
[Once again, this time repeat after me]

“No, it isn’t worth it. She doesn’t even like candy.”
[Now, the last time at a regular pace]

“No, it isn’t worth it. She doesn’t even like candy.”

The fourth example is…

“Don’t worry about calling him back. It isn’t worth it. Remember his phone is dead.”
[Once again, this time repeat after me]

“Don’t worry about calling him back. It isn’t worth it. Remember his phone is dead.”
[Now, the last time at a regular pace]

“Don’t worry about calling him back. It isn’t worth it. Remember his phone is dead.”

The fifth example is…

“You shouldn’t worry about them. It isn’t worth it.”
[Once again, this time repeat after me]

“You shouldn’t worry about them. It isn’t worth it.”
[Now, the last time at a regular pace]

“You shouldn’t worry about them. It isn’t worth it.”

SECOND EXPRESSION

Ok good deal, now let’s go over the second expression that was in the dialogue.

The second English Expression was…
“It’s not worth the trouble” (repeat)

Now, repeat after me…
“It’s not worth the trouble”  (repeat twice)

Ok, now let’s say it at a normal pace…
“It’s not worth the trouble” (repeat twice)

This expression means to not be important enough to require a comment or any effort.

EXAMPLES

So, let’s look at five examples using this Expression.

The first example is…

“It’s not worth the trouble to fix this old car.”

DIALOGUE

Ok, now let’s listen to the original dialogue again and see if you can recognize the 2 English Expressions.
