Today we will review three new Expressions. Ask him/her out, Hit on a woman/man, and Stand him/her up. Review the definitions below and then look at the 3 example sentences for each expression. After reviewing the information, try to make your own examples for each expression.

 

EXPRESSIONMEANING
Ask him/her out(to invite someone to go out to something or some place --- sometimes on a date)
Hit on a woman/man(to flirt with someone)
Stand him/her up(to fail to keep an appointment with a boyfriend or girlfriend)

ASK HIM/HER OUT

#EXAMPLES
1She couldn’t go, so he asked out someone else.
2We’ve been asked out to dinner twice this week.
3I am so happy that Sally finally asked me out to a movie.

HIT ON A WOMAN/MAN

#EXAMPLES
1The women were all hitting on George, but he didn't complain.
2I thought he was going to hit on me, but he was too shy.
3She hit on him but he didn't realize it.

STAND HIM/HER UP

#EXAMPLES
1He stood up his date while he played basketball with the guys.
2Sally stood him up because she was mad.
3How could he stand you up on your first date?
