Discordant // Flat // Off-key

Today we will review three new vocabulary words. Discordant, Flat, and Off-key. Review the definitions below and then look at the 3 example sentences for each vocabulary word. After reviewing the information, try to make your own sentences.

 

VOCABULARYDEFINITION
Discordant"Harsh and jarring because of a lack of harmony"
Flat"Lower in pitch and below the true pitch"
Off-key"Out of tune"

DISCORDANT

#SENTENCE EXAMPLES
1Without proper guidance, the band will produce discordant music that no one wants to hear.
2The scared dog gave a discordant shriek and flew out of the door.
3The discordant sound of the principal’s high-pitched voice silenced the students.

FLAT

#SENTENCE EXAMPLES
1The soloist normally sings well, but today he is flat.
2She is singing a little flat. Please give her the right note.
3Do you know what it means to sing flat?

OFF-KEY

#SENTENCE EXAMPLES
1The woman was singing off-key.
2A loud sound came from an off-key instrument.
3A man played a piano while a woman led a choir that was singing off-key.
