Mature

Meaning: To develop fully; to become full-grown

  • Sentence 1: Boys mature at a slower rate than girls do.
  • Sentence 2: Maturity, not age, is the best way to determine growth.
  • Sentence 3: The mature avocado is better than an unripe one.

TODAY’S ENGLISH EXPRESSIONS

Age is nothing but a number

Meaning: age does not determine maturity

  • Sentence 1: She is 20, however, she behaves as if she is 15. I guess age is nothing but a number.
  • Sentence 2: Even an 80-year-old can be immature. After all, age is nothing but a number.
  • Sentence 3: Be careful not to age without learning the lessons of your past because age is nothing but a number.

Let your hair down

Meaning: to relax; forget about your inhibitions

  • Sentence 2: Stop taking everything so seriously and let your hair down.
  • Sentence 3: For your birthday party, make sure to let your hair down and have a good time.
