FLUENCY LESSON INTRO | The Rule of 3s

Short Reminder:

  • “Provide enough support for your thoughts, ideas, and opinions by giving 3 details, 3 examples, or 3 reasons.”

Part 1 | 3 Details

Explanation: The first part of this rule focuses on the important details of the topic, subject, or person you are discussing. In other words, you want to help your listener visualize what you are talking about.

Topic & Question: Activities in the evening [What is your favorite thing to do in the evening?]

My Response: My favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax.

3 Details:

  1. Good book [Facts.Details]
  2. Cozy Blanket ******[Facts.Details]
  3. Cup of hot tea ****[Facts.Details]

Support for my Response:

“My favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax on the couch with a good book, a cozy blanket, and a cup of hot tea.”

1.Cozy: refers to a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation. It is often associated with a snug and comforting environment, such as being wrapped in a soft and warm blanket or enjoying a cozy fireplace on a cold winter day.

Part 2 | 3 Examples

Explanation: The second part of this rule focuses on examples of the topic, subject, or person you are discussing. In other words, you want to help your listener understand more by giving them real-life example situations.

Topic & Question: Activities in the evening [What is your favorite thing to do in the evening?]

My Response: My favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax.

3 Examples:

  1. Curl up on the couch with a captivating novel [Situation]
  2. My cozy blanket envelops me in warmth, creating the perfect atmosphere [Situation]
  3. I enjoy sipping my tea as I read my novel [Situation]

Support for my Response:

“In the evening, I absolutely love to curl up on the couch with a captivating novel. There’s just something amazing about getting lost in a fictional world. As I lose track of time, my cozy blanket envelops me in warmth, creating the perfect atmosphere. To complete this delightful experience, I always make sure to have a piping hot cup of tea nearby, whether it’s a soothing chamomile or a fragrant Earl Grey. I enjoy sipping my tea as I read my novel.”

  1. Lose track of time: To become unaware of the passing of time; to be so engrossed or absorbed in an activity that one loses awareness of the time passing.
  2. Envelop: To completely surround or wrap something or someone, typically in a covering or an atmosphere.
  3. Piping hot: Very hot; boiling or extremely heated.
  4. Sip: To drink (a beverage) by taking small mouthfuls or swallows; to drink slowly and in small quantities.

Part 3 | 3 Reasons

Explanation: The third part of this rule focuses on giving specific reasons for your ideas on the topic, subject, or person you are discussing. In other words, you want to help your listener understand your thought process and how you developed your idea.

Topic & Question: Activities in the evening [What is your favorite thing to do in the evening?]

My Response: My favorite thing to do in the evening is to relax.

3 Reasons:

  1. Allows me to escape from the stresses of the day ******[Support]
  2. Snuggling under a soft blanket creates a sense of comfort and relaxation [Support]
  3. Sipping a cup of tea warms me up and enhances the overall cozy experience [Support]

Support for my Response:

“I find that my favorite thing to do in the evening is reading because firstly, it allows me to escape from the stresses of the day and transport myself to different worlds and adventures. Secondly, the act of snuggling under a soft blanket creates a sense of comfort and relaxation that makes it even more enjoyable. Finally, sipping a cup of hot tea while engrossed in a book adds another layer of pleasure, as it not only warms me up but also enhances the overall cozy experience.”

  • Transport: To mentally or emotionally carry someone to a different place, situation, or experience. It refers to the act of being deeply engrossed in something to the extent that it feels like being transported to another world or time.
  • Snuggle: To get close and cozy with someone or something, usually by nestling or cuddling up against them/it. It implies seeking warmth, comfort, and affection by getting physically close to someone or something.
  • Add another layer: To introduce an additional aspect or element that enriches or deepens an experience, idea, or situation. It suggests enhancing or expanding upon something by incorporating another dimension or level of complexity.
  • Enhance: To improve or amplify the quality, value, or effectiveness of something. It involves making something better, stronger, or more desirable by adding elements or features that enhance its overall impact or appeal.
